The grey girl, the grey girl, the grey girl.
All Tiff could think about was the grey girl. Lotus. It was her, it was her, she knew it was her. She wasn't to blame or to fault, as far as she knew, but it was her, it was her! Lotus was why the fairies had targeted her, why they'd taken her. She hadn't been able to tell anyone. She hadn't found a way to dance around the subject. Whenever she tried, it felt like something was pushing at her mind, imposing a pressure she couldn't bear.
But her face couldn't even show the pain. She felt like she was drowning on the inside, but no matter what happened, she couldn't react. Something had taken her own autonomous expression away from her and she had a pretty good idea of what.
She couldn't have said anything to confirm it if she'd wanted to, but the fairy agent that was supposed to protect the secrets in Georgia and Emily's minds gave her the idea. After all, if they could place blockades on peoples' brains at GPIA's beck and call, what was to stop the fairies that had kidnapped her and had her at their mercy for several blurry hours?
She sat quietly, placidly, as the agent - Roberts? That was his name, wasn't it? - talked genially with her parents. Her sister was clearly trying her hardest to look bored, but she couldn't pull it off.
Meanwhile, though her relaxed face gave no indication, Tiff was wrestling with her own mind, searching every nook and cranny for some sort of loophole. If she couldn't tell anyone about what she knew had happened, if she couldn't ask relevant questions with the intent of steering the conversation somewhere that might let them figure out what went on, she would have to rescue herself.
She hadn't been sure about the fairies wanting to get their hands on Lotus until she realised something was expressly blocking her from mentioning the odd grey child. It was funny, she thought, that the extreme measures of protection around that particular secret were the only reason she really found out the truth.
But not the whole truth. Even if she knew they wanted Lotus - and the more she thought about it, she more she could feel the desperation in the wall of pressure inside her mind, so she knew they really, really wanted Lotus - she hadn't the faintest idea of why. So she decided she needed to find that out. Somehow. The fact that no weird girls with grey hair had been asked about in her interrogation didn't give her much hope for finding answers from GPIA.
By the time she left the GPIA premises with her family, it was well past ten. Only three people waited out in the hallway - the sons of the Director that wasn't Sekemoto and the girl who seemed to know them. Tiff had already forgotten all of their names.
I'll probably learn them again, she thought to herself. Agent Roberts had given her an account to sign into if she wanted to access the paranormal forums.
